12-Steppin’ – Newbie Chronicles-The Sponsor

In case you need a definition of a sponsor, she or he is a mentor. Somebody who’s been a 12-Stepper long enough to have “worked” all of them, and can share their infinite wisdom with others, and for free! Preferably somebody who has a plan and is sticking to it.

12-Steppin’ – Newbie Chronicles-The Higher Power

drugrehab.com defines a Higher Power thus:

A higher power is something greater than us. For many people, God is a higher power. For others, a higher power isn’t associated with religion or a deity. It’s a connection that we share with all living things. Some people don’t try to understand their higher power. They believe humans can’t comprehend it. Regardless of what a higher power is to you, having faith in a higher power can benefit your recovery.

12-Steppin’ – Newbie Chronicles-The Food

In our last episode, I blah-blahed about what form my abstinence takes. One could describe Abstinence as the How. The Food Plan is the What.

Some people, wishing to take the thinking out of What to Eat, are able to eat the same thing every day. Another member calls it Oatmeal-Chicken-Chicken, in a bit of a mocking tone. I mean, there aren’t many adults who, given the endless food choices that most industrialized nations have, who are able to limit their diets that much.

12-Steppin’ – Newbie Chronicles-The Abstinence

There are a few staples of all “12 Step” recovery programs that were copied and pasted from Alcoholics Anonymous. Dr. Bob and Bill W. did the heavy lifting, and when that proved successful, other addicts did some find and replace of a few words, and they were off!

This isn’t to wholly dis “those other” recovery groups – I’m IN one, for a start. I’m just having some fun at their expense. Rule 62 and all that (look it up).

12-Steppin’ – Beginner Mode

I didn’t forget that I had this blog, but dang if it hasn’t been years since I last checked in. It’s ok if I don’t have followers anymore, or if they themselves have abandoned their own blogs.

In January of this year, aka before The Plague, my accumulated 9-year support and general mascot-ery of many friends in 12-step programs – the usual suspects, AA and NA – led to my acceptance that there was a reason, dangit, that I related to those people so well.

Under Construction

Posted the same at my Storytime Theatre blog. After all, whatever I do affects all my blogs, and lately, I’ve lacked the time, or when I have the time, the energy, to properly care for these sites.

Random Thoughts and Legos

First, I will call them “Legos,” not “LEGO bricks” or “LEGO sets.”

Okay, “LEGO sets” is doable. That all-caps name is distracting, though. It’s not like I’m  screaming the word, after all.

OR AM I?!?!?

She’s free!

I think of things to write. I really do! But I haven’t put finger to keyboard because there aren’t enough hours in the day, and I still have to work for a living. Lately my priority has been: video games. This is a sign that I’ve been feeling stressed out and helpless to change anything. This means that I’m not writing or sculpting or really, even reading much here or anywhere. Sorry, people that I follow!

Another chapter plug!

I know, I haven’t navel-gazed in a while. If it helps, I’ve been doing the fiction stuff instead.

BEHOLD! A link to the latest chapter of the Pauper Princess Fanction Theatre, which is currently mashing together my Pauper Princess character with the webcomic Girl Genius. Fun for the whole family!**

Vol 4, Chapter 14: http://wp.me/p3HAGQ-3L

If you’ve never read any of it before, here’s Vol 1, Chapter 1: http://wp.me/p3HAGQ-5

**It is probably not fun for the whole family.

Sad News

The Matticus Kingdom

I have terrible news to share with the blogosphere today.

Horrible, no good, awful news.

Many of you knew him as Grayson Queen, author and artist extraordinaire.  Perhaps you’ve read one of his novels.  Perhaps you’ve purchased, or at least enjoyed, some of his paintings or sculptures…  Perhaps you knew that he was also Rara‘s husband, Dave.

I don’t have a lot of details, but I can confirm that Dave passed away earlier this week.

Please share this post wide and far.  Please say a prayer for Dave and Rara.  Please send her every ounce of spare energy you can muster.  She needs us.  Dave’s family and friends need us.

And send her mail to show her your love, your RawrLove:

You don’t need to know what to say.  You don’t need to say anything…

Good Samaritan, or Idiot?

I’ll tell you this story before I tell you the other one.

A while back someone on my Facebook feed posted a link to one of those “What Would You Do?” videos. It was a show that staged moral dilemmas for people and filmed them with hidden cameras. I meant to click on the link, but the feed got away from me. And yet I’d been thinking about it for a while. The dilemma presented was for a woman (actress) using food stamps – probably an EBT card these days – to buy groceries and falling short. I didn’t see the video, but I imagine that she was agonizing loudly enough for bystanders to hear. Another actress was there to complain about poor people. And then it showed how different people reacted. I still haven’t seen that video, so I don’t know its findings. It’s only the situation that I find intriguing, not the outcome.

Just an Old-Fashioned Plug Post

…One I’m sure I wrote for you and me.

Just a quickie to link to one of my story blogs. It’s crossover fanfiction of all those Pauper Prince stories I’ve got stashed away on another blog, plus Girl Genius. Could it be any more niche-y?

Vol 4, Chapter 13: http://wp.me/p3HAGQ-3L

Yes, Volume 4, Chapter 13! I’m not good at telling short stories.

If you’ve never read any of it before, here’s Vol 1, Chapter 1: http://wp.me/p3HAGQ-5
